NewTron Bomb
NEBULAE M01 FS1R CP70 NewTron PPG M1000

The Tron is just one of those instruments that deserves a place in history. We have all heard them on so many classic records and every time, without fail, they stamp their unique character on the track adding a a kind of surreal orchestral texture - "It's strings, Jim, but not as we know it"!

Derived from the Chamberlin, this tape-based playback instrument could well be the world's first 'sampler' by offering playback of recordings of 'real' instruments such as strings, choir, flute, brass, etc.. Technological limitations prevented this from being totally authentic but that's not to deny that the Tron had an endearing sound nonetheless.

Many made the Tron a trademark of their 'sound'... bands such as King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Moody Blues, Tangerine Dream, England and many more and also artists such as Isao Tomita and Jean-Michel Jarre to name just two... the list of users can go on and on.. Led Zep, Beatles, Floyd....

Today, the Tron is enjoying something of a revival with many leading bands and artists using this distinctive sound in their modern productions.

Hollow Sun's NewTron Bomb offers totally authentic samples recorded at every note over its 35-note range. The collection also overcomes one of the biggest limitations of the original - the samples in the NewTron collection are seamlessly looped for infinite sustain without the eight second restriction of the original.

This collection also does away with another of the original's problems - the constant dismantling and servicing that was required almost every time you switched the damned thing on!!! It was so notoriously unreliable that eminent user, Rick Wakeman (of Yes and various solo projects) ceremoniously dragged two of them to the top of a hill, poured petrol over them and burnt them such was his frustration with the instrument (or so the story goes)!

You can now enjoy the truly authentic sound of this timeless classic without any of these frustrations. Apart from the seamless looping, these samples are not sanitised or cleaned-up in any way - they are the genuine article, warts and all!

In his review of the Hollow Sun CDs in 'Sound On Sound' (October 2005 issue), Nick Magnus says of the NewTron collection:

"I found the overall character of these samples to be superb. In comparison to my extensive personal collection of Mellotron sounds garnered from numerous sources, this set beat mine hands down for sheer presence and clarity within a mix."

And leading UK synth artist, Ian Boddy, says of it:

"Just lurved the mellotrons - cosmic baby !"

The Hollow Sun NewTron Bomb is available for S5/6000 in a 'native' format CD that will just pop into your sampler's CD-ROM (or Mac/PC for use with ak.Sys) without any form of installation required. Also, of course, fully compatible with Z4/8 and/or MPC4000. See below for further compatibility notes

COMPATIBILITY

All these sounds are fully compatible with the Akai Z4, Z8 and MPC4000. These sounds are also known to load directly into Kontakt 2.2 and Mach 5. The actual samples themselves should also be able to be loaded into other samplers though you will have to do the keyboard mapping, etc..

Given the differences in feature sets and/or user-interface implementation between the different sampler formats, 100% compatibility cannot be absolutely guaranteed and some minimal 'tweaking' of some sounds may be required depending on the chosen destination format. Of course, you will probably want to tweak the sounds to your requirements anyway.
