An integrated sampler/drum machine/MIDI sequencer that became the standard production tool in the world of rap and hip hop and still highly sought after, even today.

EWI1000 and EVI1000 Electronic Wind Instruments

Two innovative wind controllers and a matching synth that brought new levels of expressiveness to electronic performance.

S700

This 6-voice multi-sampler was somewhere between the capabilities of the S612 (on which it was based) and the S900. A keyboard version (the X7000) was also released.

1988    

S1000

The world's first affordable 16-bit professional stereo sampler with a large LCD display and graphic user interface that was to be copied by almost every manufacturer in the business. The S1000 immediately became the standard sampler in professional recording studios worldwide.

DR1200

The world's first affordable digital multi-track recorder offering 12-tracks expandable to 36 controlled by the dedicated DL1200 remote controller.

1990

The first sampler to include hard-disk audio recording along with a host of other new features including Q-list programming, a SMPTE reader/generator, digital output, etc.

DD1000

The world's first MO disk recorder offering 4-track recording on a robust, removable media. Built like a tank, many are still in use 24/7 the world over today.

The next generation of Akai S-Series samplers featuring expanded sample editing and Assignable Program Modulation (APM) for adding analogue synth style processing to any sampled sound.

DD / DL1500

This 16-track DAW (digital audio workstation) caused a storm when released as it offered fast and efficient post-production and audio sync facilities to the video and film industry. It is still in use today and has been responsible for the post-production of many blockbuster movies.

DR8

Based on the pioneering technology found in the DD1500, the DR8 was the world's first affordable, stand-alone 8-track hard disk recorder.

The latest generation of S-Series samplers add new features, expandability and affordability.

REMIX16

A new table-top sampler designed for phrase sampling and DJ live performance.

DR16

The world's first affordable stand-alone 16-track hard disk recorder offered the same functionality as the DR8 but with the benefit of sixteen tracks to record on.

1996

DD8

Akai pioneered the concept of 'dubber' - i.e. a multi-track disk recorder that could take media in a variety of different formats for use at a film's mixdown.

Designed to replace traditional mag machines (aka 'dubbers'), the DD8 went on to enjoy enormous success in film and video post-production houses. In fact, they are still in use today.

DD8plus

The DD8 was upgraded to support 24-bit/96kHz recording and playback to satisfy the demanding dynamic range of film mixes.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded the DD8plus a coveted Academy Plaque in the category 'Scientific and Engineering Awards' for "the design and development of the DD8plus digital audio dubber specifically designed for the motion picture industry".

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.....

"Scientific and Engineering Awards are given for devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value to the arts and sciences of motion pictures and that also have a proven history of use in the motion picture industry."

The DD8plus has more recently been used to mix the soundtrack for the Oscar winning blockbuster 'Chicago' (which also won the Academy award for "Achievement in sound") and also the Oscar nominated 'Gangs of New York'.
