TURNTABLE SCRATCHES
 

OK... the turntable is not exactly a vintage instrument but the sound of 'scratching' has certainly become a classic sound in many genres of music.

I make no claims to understand the techniques that are involved. I don't even understand the appeal of the sound - to me, it just brings back bad memories of one of my favourite albums being ruined!

However, it cannot be denied that the sound is very popular as is the whole culture that surrounds it and even mainstream pop music will now have some guy wiggling away on some turntables in the background. As I say... I don't get it myself but there you go!

I found these quite by chance in the public domain on some obscure website (I forget which) and thought that they might be useful if your need for some 'classic' scratch sounds is occasional... perhaps you need a one-off scratch effect to spice up a track or a jingle or whatever. They certainly won't replace the undoubted talents of a skilled 'turntablist' but they might come in useful one day.

There are only four samples but they are distinctive (some may say clichéd). They are mapped out as follows:

C3 Scratch 1

E3 Scratch 3
F3 Scratch 4

They have been trimmed and normalised and otherwise optimised for professional use.
